The shop and the family

The counter since 1987

Suresh Deshpande at the counter, writing a slip, with brass ball valves and cream CPVC elbows laid out in front of him.

Suresh Deshpande opened the counter on Laxmi Road in 1987 with pipes and taps: GI pipe cut and threaded to length, brass taps, and the washers that kept them from dripping.

In the 2000s the new flats of Pune moved from GI to CPVC. GI rusted inside and choked; CPVC did not, and it took the hot water from the new geysers. The shelves changed over a few years. The way we sell did not: tell us the job, and we find the part.

His son Nikhil runs the trade desk and the WhatsApp. Contractors send him a list in the morning and collect it on the way to site.

The counter still measures every pipe. Bring the old piece; we hold it against the gauge and hand over the fitting that fits.

सही माल. सही नाप.

“The right goods. The right measure.” What the counter has said since 1987, in Hindi.

What we believe

  • The right size first, then the price.
  • Genuine stock only, from the company or its distributor.
  • Spares for what we sell, so a tap bought here can be mended here.
  • A bill for every order, with GST.
  • If we do not keep it, we say so, and tell you who does.

Every bin labelled

Rows of labelled blue bins holding screws, wall plugs, bolts and brass fittings, with small parts drawers on the left.
Every bin carries its size: screws by gauge and length, plugs by drill size, fittings by the pipe they take. Nobody at the counter guesses, and nobody sends you home with the wrong one.
