In plain words
Steps
Measure and count
Measure the walls and ceiling and take off the door and window. This room comes to about 45 m². The paint calculator does the sums for any room.
Clear and cover
Move the furniture to the middle and cover it and the floor. Run masking tape along the skirting, switchboards and window frames.
Fill the cracks
Scrape off loose paint. Fill cracks and holes with wall putty, let it dry hard, then sand it flush.
One coat of primer
Roll one coat of primer over walls and ceiling: about 4 L for this room. Let it dry for 4 to 6 hours.
Ceiling first
Paint the ceiling before the walls, so drips land on wall you have not painted yet. Brush the edges, then roll the rest.
Two coats on the walls
Cut in at the corners and edges with a 2″ brush, then roll the wall in long, even strokes. Leave about 4 hours between coats.
Tape off, wash up
Pull the masking tape while the last coat is still soft. Wash the brush and roller in water straight away.
